All These Things That I’ve Done

went body surfing yesterday, my neck is killing me and i woke up with a migraine=not cool. me and my dad are hopefully gonna go out and get some fireworks! i love it so much! watching the coney island hot dog eating contest on ESPN and feeling just ever so slightly nauseas. why? why would you do that? it’s sooooo gross!

today’s song is All These Things That I’ve Done by The Killers

The Invisible Children is an organization that helps the children in Northern Uganda who are being forced to hide at night or risk being kidnapped, raped, and turned into soldiers for the Rebel Forces. they have a great documentary showing you just how awful the kids have it. it will rip your heart out and make you passionate about saving these kids in any way you can. i’d love to go to Africa some day and see this all and have a hands on experience, but for now i’ll fight the good fight from here.

a few years ago, after i’d seen the documentary for the first time, Invisible Children had a nationwide event where kids and adults went to certain buildings in their city and slept on the ground the same way that children in Uganda have to every night. it was called The Global Night Commute. we were getting attention from news networks and writing letters to our congressmen and women, trying to start a country wide support system. i had the amazing privilege to be a part of this movement and i love that i got to make history in such an awesome way. these kids need our help and we have the resources to take care of them. therefore, we have the responsibility to take care of them.

anyway, you’re probably wondering “what does any of this have to do with All These Things That I’ve Done?” well, a couple weeks after we all slept on the ground, the Invisible Children street team got an email of a music video, a compilation of all the biggest groups of people who participated in The Global Night Commute and gained news stations’ attention mixed in with footage of African children and Americans lip syncing to All These Things That I’ve Done. i found the video so i could show you all just how big of a difference we all made that night. this song will always remind me of what we did as a country and how every little step is step closer to freedom for these innocent children in Uganda. my heart will always have a huge soft spot for Africa and someday i will play a bigger part in saving these children and their families.

when there’s nowhere else to run
is there room for one more son
one more son
if you can, hold on
if you can, hold on
hold on

i wanna stand up
i wanna let go
you know, you know
no you don’t, you don’t
i wanna shine on in the hearts of man
i want a meaning on the back of my broken hand
another head aches
another heart breaks
i’m so much older than i can take
and my affections
well they come and go
i need directions to perfection
no no no no

help me out
yeah
you know you gotta help me out
yeah
don’t you put me on the back burner
you know you got to help me out
yeah

when there’s nowhere else to run
is there room for one more son?
these changes
ain’t changing me
the bold hearted boy i used to be

yeah
you know you gotta help me out
yeah
don’t you put me on the back burner
you know you gotta help me out
yeah
you’re gonna bring yourself down
yeah
you’re gonna bring yourself down
yeah
you’re gonna bring yourself down

i got soul but i’m not a soldier
i got soul but i’m not a soldier
i got soul but i’m not a soldier
i got soul but i’m not a soldier
i got soul but i’m not a solder

(time, truth and heart)

yeah
you know you gotta help me out
yeah
you know you gotta help me out
yeah
no don’t you put me on the back burner
you know you gotta help me out
yeah
you’re gonna bring yourself down
yeah
you’re gonna bring yourself down
yeah
no don’t you put me on the back burner
you’re gonna bring yourself down
yeah

over and in
last call for sin
when everything’s lost
the battle is won
with all these things that i’ve done

(time, truth, and heart)

if you can, hold on
if you can, hold on
